Reverse Engineering

We are very proud of our technicians and the exemplary examples of Reverse Engineering we have done in the past.  One of our favorite examples came into our shop with little notice.

FDC first received, essentially, a shipment of parts without any prints and without any real direction of what needed to be repaired.  After our initial inspection, we discovered that the straightening rolls had been damaged due to a lube line failure.  As part of the lube line failure, all 4 main bearing housing bearings picked up on the rolls, resulting in scoring and gulling of the main bearing diameters.  3 split aluminum grease slings were also damaged beyond recognition.

Our experienced technicians reverse engineered 3 new aluminum grease slings, resurfaced all 6 roll diameters (using our high-tech polishing procedure) and confirmed new diameter sizes.  To finish the job, technicians replaced 4 bronze bushings, installed, bored and honed to ensure proper running clearance.  After a final inspection, the parts were preassembled and shipped back to the company in Mexico.
